Sunday afternoon

October 25, 2026 • 1:48pm

The clocks went back last night in the UK, meaning we got an hour of extra sleep (and the we’ve stolen some light from the evenings for the mornings).

Despite getting a good sleep I woke up tired and have remained so throughout today.

I’ve been drifting in and out of sleep for the past ninety minutes listening to the FM radio. Yes, FM radio! Outside of my car, where I very occasionally listen to the radio, I can’t remember the last time I listened to radio over the airwaves. But I have a radio alarm clock and decided to use its musical function today, tuning in to BBC Radio 3 – which is nearly all classical music.

I really like the idea and image of listening to the radio on a rainy Sunday afternoon.1 Though it’s just windy today – not rainy. Especially when paired with an armchair, reading and the occasional snooze. To me, it screams of a bygone, classy era. So it was rather pleasant.

I listened to an episode of Private Passions with Eric Idle. He essentially talks about his favourite classical pieces and then you get to hear them.

All these years after its invention I still find FM radio remarkable.

You’re telling me this a tiny, thin cable hanging out the back of my alarm clock can pick up music/speech from an antenna goodness knows how far away‽

Sure, the quality isn’t the best. But it’s still miraculous.

Saw Van Morrison in concert

September 24, 2026 • 12:36pm

I saw Van Morrison at the British Airways ARC last night with my Dad.

Will write a longer overview of my day at some point. But right now I’m too hungover.

It’s annoying that I need to drink alcohol to enjoy a concert, but I really do. I’m too in my own head otherwise. But as a result I often forget parts of the concert because I’ve drunk.

Anyway, I had a nice time and it’s always lovely spending time with Dad.
